NaPoWriMo 2014 – MY FIRST EXPERIMENT

IMG-20131019-WA0000

Wish… (April 30, Day 30)

I hold my hands in submission

Neither sympathy nor empathy came forward

I look at the occasion in disguise

Apathy embraced in pretensions.

Imagery I find not in being realistic

Pragmatism appends the life-flight

Wish every ‘I’ could be their honest ‘Self’.

Addendum :

Adieu April

Thirty days of association

Thirty shades of emotions

Impressions agile

Expressed lucidly

Summer showers and sunny days

Seashores and long travels

And objects personified

Voices I heard and replayed

And love tranquilised

April colours filled up to brim

Cup of life painted milieu

Adieu, yet a beginning….

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Time (April 29, Day 29)

clock 1

The precious seconds spoke nothing

Quietly moved into minutes

I dreaded the approaching hour;

And the hour ran into hours,

Days, weeks, months riddle game.

Left counting the mounting years

The life I led chasing dreams

Wondered, if I ever mattered to time

Well, I didn’t wish to know either.

I stayed in the time, a lifetime

Wishing I had known the point in time

If so, should I’ve lived manipulating time?

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Karmic (April 28, Day 28)

 candle

Shed myself into the moment

My wax melted and froze

I glowed in my own light

Luminous radiance filled around;

The life I lived sometime ago

Removing darkness from other lives.

Yet, I am nothing without the fire!

I blush, burn and buffer to existence

And I grow from a mere ornate candle

Our karmic connection predestined.

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Plunge (April 27, Day 27)

plunge

There I take a plunge

From the fancied to the profound

Shallow turns deep waters

The labyrinth musing

I change my perception.

Who and where of me unscathed

I in pursuit of the divine, submit myself.

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Oblivion (April 26, Day 26)

butterfly

Smiling into the oblivion

I trod into the garden

Smitten by envious pleasures

My enchanting little world -

Gratitude I express to the Creator.

Bewitching exquisiteness, the butterfly,

Fluttering over every flower

Experiencing every moment of its being

Oblivious of its loveliness

Living purposefully, its blessed life.

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Decipher (April 25, Day 25)

decipher

Capriciously behaved

During countless encounters

Never once encased love

Myriad colours

During countless toils

Never once unfolded love

Expressions conspicuous

Sentiments countless

Never once did I decipher….

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Illusions (April 24, Day 24)

illusion

The moving clouds chased each other

The orange illuminated its borders

A mirage of golden chariot;

The sun remained hidden.

The sky in blues

Sunset a distant dream

I kept gaping at the aura

Illusions unrestrained.

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

Transit (April 23, Day 23)

 boat

The boat

In soliloquy

Rose and fell

Drifted with the tide.

The soul

In search

Purged and evolved

Merged with the elements.

Gauged the horizon

And sailed

Landed on a new shore

Resilient abode?

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

Curls (April 22, Day 22)

 tendril

Creepers entangled

Climbed the railing

Tendrils dangled

Soft, green, magical -

Curling in unbound strength

Wandered into infinity.

The solemn ferns

Wondered about its curls.

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

Rejoice (April 21, Day 21)

 reminiscence

A long time

Remembered the friend of mine

Growing up in different lands

Years of disconnect

A train journey

Recognised the little friend

A frontbencher

The name I called out instantly

As always in classroom

From the last bench

Older we were

Trilled to meet too

Quarrels and competitions did not bother

Our success did not matter

Rejoicing in our recognition

We sat in reminiscence.

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Everlasting! (April 20, Day 20)

 moon

Blame not the light

When the moon appears visibly faint -

A charmer, in the clear blue sky.

My camera zooms to perfection

Through the greens of the coconut palm -

The waning gibbous rules the day.

My mind wonders

Charisma and glory wane

Yet  everlasting!

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

In Quest (April 19 Day 19)

  canopy

Adieu, I bid not

I walk away, in quest.

The green canopy welcomed;

I followed the unknown road.

Plans, I make not

I walk away, inquisitive.

The wild lilies nodded;

I stepped on the unknown path.

And in a while

Adieu, I bid to the unknown;

I walk the road of the known path.

My quest continues, unhindered

Inquisitive …

As I always am.

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

…Hopefully (April 18, Day 18)

 wall

The empty house stood solitary

The shut windows wept silently

The walls paled in the dim light

And the half open door whispered…

Once it was a home

Fragrant with coffee and sambar *

Incense and camphor;

Soft music played in the background

And sounds of laughter reverberated…

I locked the door and walked to my family –

Expectant eyes and promising hearts,

Assured a new home in a new land….

My love resonated and I prayed hopefully

A happy family as occupants

For the empty house

That stood solitary.

* A vegetable dish popular in South Indian cuisine

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Shower (April 17, Day 17)

 Laburnum

Yellow.

Laburnum in blooms;

Bunches of delightful bright.

Yellow.

Leaves turned pale;

Scatters of waning beauty.

Yellow.

Shreds of living and dead shed;

In a soothing summer shower.

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Puddle (April 16, Day 16)

 puddle

Restless leaves on the way

Wind swirls uninterrupted

The glossy puddle of oil slick

Gets ornate.

Wish it could flow past

Whirl with the wind

Sail on the restless leaves

Glisten the path to freedom.

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Frames (April 15, Day 15)

 photoframe

Frames on the wall

Four generations.

Great grandfather worked with the British

Grandfather witnessed the World War

And my father was born in the pre-Independent India.

My brother and I often heard the stories with awe

History a wonder and life  unimaginable!

The times have changed since then.

Our next generation

Loves the frames on the walls.

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Envision (April 14, Day 14)

palm2

Shadows I trace in the moonlight

Candles glower

A night sans electricity

Darkness enlightens.

Shadows I chase in the hope

Mind envisions

A night enigmatic

Beauty in black comes alive.

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

Destined? (April 13, Day 13)

 track

Travellers we were on a night long journey

Bonded over our dreams, aspirations and mundane life

Strangers we were till yesterday

Strangers we will be in future

Wonder, if it was destined…destiny?

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Be the Same? (April 12, Day 12)

 pic

Will it ever be the same?

Said the wind as it blew

Close to the sea that rose

A little above the shore that once

Saw the white sand in layers spread

Where the grains strained through

Little fingers of the children.

I stood there watching,

Feeling the wind speak.

Along came reminiscence…

The days I had played at the shore as

A child trying to hold the sand,

White and pure.

Will it ever be the same?

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Laughing probably? (April 11, Day 11)

 FEATHER 2

You sit there looking at me

Laughing probably?

Care not I to adorn myself

In jewels

Let alone the garb,

An apparel to win others;

Abandoning the abundance

In attributes

Overwhelmed with knowledge

And wisdom

My heart bleeding

Weeping silently….

As you join me

Holding my hands

Lifting me from the fallen path

The way you always do

And still laughing

You sit there looking at me….

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

The strife to life (April 10, Day 10)

 life

The strife to life

An existence fresh and beautiful

Yet a million miles away

Factors unknown to existence itself

Yet a million reasons to survival

And then forms the embryo

Multiplies and lives

The strife to life…..

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Emblazoned (April 9, Day 9)

droplet

Afloat, away, far afield

Emblazoned….

The pure, pearly water droplet

Set sail on the stray lotus leaf

Strangers…

When the wind hampered its path

The drop scattered to unite;

When the sun reached out

The drop magnified the green;

A little blow to one

Saviour, they could not be to the other.

When they perish

Unite they, being one with Nature

Said Soul to Body

“Let’s remain afloat, away far afield,

And I remain emblazoned…”

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Rhythm (April 8, Day 8)

  palm

Amidst the palm leaves

That lay scattered

The elephants swayed,

Munching leisurely,

In a divine rhythm.

The picture refreshed

That lay etched within

When I devoured every morsel,

Satiating hunger,

In a divine rhythm.

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

shimmer

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

Storyline (April 6, Day 6)

 storyline

Scribbling scrambles

Thoughts travel terrain

Meandering meaningfully

I invite imagination.

Ideas indispensable

Mind mingles mandates

Rules rueful

Scribbling storyline silhouette.

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Forbidden (April 5, Day 5)

bee

A bunch of grapes on the table

Hovered a bee in its middle

It sat, felt and flew away

Never once stung,

Forbidden fruit -

It was not though.

I tried to shoo it away;
In fear…

In an instant

Came hovering the bee

And stung me in my arm,

Forbidden it was though.

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

In Bliss (April 4, Day 4)

 grass1

In the wake of the day

In the hour of emptiness

When I share my ‘self’ with none

When I share my time with none

My mind in bliss

Awake to awareness

Of the green grass

The blades fresh from the dew wash

Involved in secret communication -

The little joyous moments of their own …

When my feet touch its ‘self’

When my feet feel its ‘life’

Being alive becomes awareness

Living becomes bliss

I am one amongst them in ‘self’

I am one amongst many in ‘life’.

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

Sun and Play (April 3, Day 3)

sn

Silence in its perfection takes on life,

When the azure sky is thronged by white clouds

Smiling its way to play with prince charming -

The sun that rises without fanfare,

Stretching its limbs to catch hold of the blanket

And within seconds the golden orange spread

As bright as my inner light

Illuminating every limb of mine;

Mind playing games with rainbow colours

As calm fills deep within

Ah! It was not an illusion anymore…

My eyes open lazily to recall

The moment I chose to watch the sun rise in the East.

Once again, I close my eyes to feel the warmth

And emotions catch me unguarded

When Mother Nature hugs me with sun rays.

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

How do I see April?    (April 2, Day 2)

 april

How do I see April?

As a season and a month

A reason to change

When summer beats some,

Autumn refreshes others

And spring welcomes new life.

April rings in the bell

Of the beginning of the financial year,

New Year celebrations and festivities world around

A month of fun and happiness

A reason to change

And a season that welcomes new life.

But my April is a warm breeze

Reminding ice-creams and walk on the beach

Leaving inhibitions on the shore

Shedding the fear to get closer to the tide

Finding love in everything I see

And a season that welcomes life, afresh.

 ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

I believe in beginning my experiment by offering a poem to the Almighty.

The Search Continues…..  (APRIL 1, DAY 1)

 FEATHER

The days may be the same

The nights may be the same

There was never the ‘in thing’ in life

Till my subconscious went in search

Not a cult of Krishna consciousness

Yet the chants remained with me.

How does he manifest into our life, I do not know.

But whenever tears washed down my face

May be it was my soul searching for inner peace

And there appeared a hint of Krishna

The Supreme power

Whom I failed to recognise.

And still without saying a word

He continued to appear in my everyday life

Till one day I sat back

And took note of the little events

It was just a matter of half an hour of silence

My shut eyes spoke nothing.

Nevertheless….. there was this unknown flicker

A bright light that transformed

Where from, I do not know

But I was in joy

And tears of happiness rolled down

The Hare Rama Hare Krishna chant played in vibrant colours.

Wonder was it my mind, body or soul, or the spirit

That danced to the music, light feet and in trance

I went round and round, surrendered completely

The body, soul, mind, and the spirit

In devotion and reverence

All I could hear from my inner voice was a big thank you.

Who was speaking  and why,

I will never question

I was at peace with myself

More because I found my way of life

The days will be the same

The nights will be the same.
